The route, starting in Busseto (PR) and ending in Correggio (RE), is a true tribute to the culture, history, and nature of this region.
The adventure begins in Busseto, the birthplace of the famous composer Giuseppe Verdi. Here, just a few kilometers away, in the village of Roncole Verdi, you’ll find the Church of San Michele and the Birthplace of Giuseppe Verdi, places that speak to the deep roots of this land.
Pedaling toward the Piacenza hills, the route leads to the Abbey of Chiaravalle della Colomba, along the Via Francigena, famous for its picturesque cloister. From here, you’ll reach Castell’Arquato, a medieval village of rare beauty, and Vigoleno, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, surrounded by fortified walls.
In the province of Parma, the route offers an immersion in nature along the Stirone Cycle Path, near Scipione. Next, you pass through the Salsomaggiore Terme, an icon of wellness, and the majestic Tabiano Castle. Continuing, you enter the Taro River Park, an oasis of biodiversity. From here, you’ll tackle the Carrega Woods, with their enchanting green, and reach the Felino Castle, perched on a hill. Finally, Torrechiara Castle, with its grandeur and breathtaking views, marks one of the most iconic stops on the route.
Crossing the province of Reggio Emilia, the itinerary becomes even more intense and steeped in history. After a long ascent through the gullies, you reach the legendary Canossa Castle, a symbol of Italian medieval history. Not far away is the Votigno Village, an ancient settlement that hosts a Buddhist monastery.
The Tassobbio Valley offers glimpses of pristine nature, while Pietra di Bismantova, with its impressive flat shape, leaves cyclists speechless. Continuing, the climb towards Ca’ del Vento presents a challenge for both legs and spirit. The final section of the route includes the Crostolo Cycle Path and passes through Vezzano sul Crostolo, leading to Reggio Emilia and its Piazza Prampolini, the heart of the city.
The journey ends in Correggio, where cyclists are welcomed into the historic center, rich in charm and history. The Correggio Park is the perfect spot to relax and celebrate the end of an unforgettable adventure.
Emilia Gravel is not just a route: it’s an experience that combines a passion for gravel, the pleasure of discovering a region full of culture and history, and personal challenge. Every part of the route has been designed to offer unique emotions, through natural trails, white roads, and picturesque villages.

FAQ – Frequent Asked Questions
How does the registration work?
At the time of registration, no documents are required: simply complete the online procedure. At a later stage, you will need to upload the medical certificate using the dedicated form available on the ENDU registration portal.
What documents are required for registration?
Registration can be conveniently done through the ENDU portal at the following link: https://www.endu.net/it/events/emilia-gravel/.
You can choose to pay with credit card, PayPal, or via bank transfer.
What type of medical certificate is required?
For all participants, it is MANDATORY to upload a medical certificate suitable for cycling on the ENDU portal. This can be a Certificate of Fitness for Sport with particular and high cardiovascular commitment, or an Agonistic Medical Certificate for Cycling, compliant with DM 26/04/2013, issued by a Sports Medical Center or a qualified doctor.
The certificate must be valid at least until September 30, 2025, and uploaded by September 20, 2025.
In case of non-compliance, the certificate will be rejected and deleted, and a new one will need to be submitted.
Note: The certificate must be specific to CYCLING. Certificates for other sports disciplines, such as triathlon or athletics, will not be accepted.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the participant not being considered properly registered, and they will lose the right to a refund of the registration fee.
Where can I park in Busseto?
In Busseto, you have several parking options, which we will provide more details about later in the year and when sending instructions for event participation.
Is the route a loop, starting and ending in the same place?
The route is NOT a loop, a choice based on the Emilia region’s terrain. Closing the loop would require about 100 additional kilometers in areas with little cultural and natural interest, without enriching the event experience. This would also avoid unnecessarily extending the duration, saving a valuable day, possibly a workday.
How can I get back to Busseto from Correggio?
The finish line for Emilia Gravel 2024 is at the Parco della Memoria in Correggio (RE), located in the town center.
The Reggio Emilia train station is 15.7 km from the finish and is useful for your return. If you’re traveling with your bicycle, you can use regional trains, while if the bike is packed, you have access to all trains. For details, visit www.trenitalia.com.
Parking in Correggio:
Large parking lot near the municipal swimming pool.
Parking near the stadium.
Download here the file for the bikeable route from Correggio to Reggio Emilia Station: https://endu-l.ink/stazione-re.
The Reggio Emilia – Fidenza train line is well-served, with trains every 30 minutes.
Note: A shuttle may be set up on Sunday, with two trips from Correggio to Busseto, one in the afternoon and another in the evening. We recommend monitoring this FAQ for updates!
When is the pre-event sign-in day?
Sign-ins will take place on:
Thursday 25/09/2025, from 16:00 to 20:00, for the departures on Friday 26/09/2025.
Friday 26/09/2025, from 17:00 to 20:00, for the departures on Saturday 27/09/2025.
If you are unable to register the evening before, you can do so on the same morning, arriving about 30 minutes before the departure.
The detailed event schedule will be sent by email to all participants.
Are there any agreements for accommodation and/or meals?
Emilia Gravel is a ‘single-stage’ event, with no set stops: each participant decides where to stop for food and sleep along the route. Our advice? Study the route carefully before departure to plan your stops effectively. Use tools like Booking and Google to find accommodations that meet your needs.
For the night before departure, we provide the Convento di Busseto as a sleeping point. Bring your own mattress and sleeping bag, as there are no beds or cots, but you will have a room dedicated to participants.
Additionally, we usually organize a social dinner (not included in the registration fee) to get to know each other and immerse ourselves in the Emilia spirit of the event!
Are aid stations provided?
As in previous editions, there will be an aid station on the first day in Salsomaggiore Terme, located at km 65 on both routes.
And remember, we are in Emilia, and we love to surprise you…
What bike can I use to participate in Emilia Gravel?
As indicated in the regulations on emiliagravel.com, the route is suitable for gravel bikes, mountain bikes, or trekking bikes.
It is essential that the bicycle is reliable, with a good braking system. A generous tire section (over 40 mm) and very agile gearing (preferably MTB gears) are recommended, due to the presence of climbs with gradients exceeding 20% in some sections.
The use of road bikes with gears and tires narrower than 40 mm is not prohibited but is discouraged.
The event is also open to those using e-bikes.
Do I need to specify the day I intend to depart during registration?
When registering on the ENDU portal, you need to indicate the day of departure and the chosen route. However, this choice is not binding: you can change your mind both before departure and during the event, opting for a different day or route. The registered user will still receive both tracks.
Do the short and long routes start indiscriminately on Friday and Saturday?
We decided to offer two departure options: Friday, September 26th, and Saturday, September 27th, 2025, to accommodate the different needs of the participants.
Those who prefer to complete the long route in 3 days can depart on Friday, but even those who are new to the experience and wish to tackle the short route have the same opportunity.
For those aiming to complete the event in two days, both the short and long routes are available as options.
Are there areas where participants must hike-a-bike?
The route, especially the long one, is physically challenging but technically simple. The route is rideable for over 99% of the time, with the exception of a couple of points that require less than 10 minutes of portage in total.
Are there any checkpoint zones?
We have created a stamp booklet to certify passage at specific points along the route. These will be bars, refreshment stations, or significant self-stamp points, and they will be communicated both before the event and during the briefing itself. However, since this is a non-competitive event (except against oneself), missing a stamp will not affect the final celebration for all participants.
We still recommend following the entire route, as we believe it has been designed to best highlight the territory. Anyone who chooses not to follow the complete path would miss out on a significant part of the experience.
Do I receive any certification?
No official certifications valid for participation in other events are provided, but you will receive a finisher document and your name will be published on the website for completing the event.
Emilia Gravel is not about giving you certificates, but offering you a long smile and many new friendships. If you’re looking for certificates, maybe Emilia Gravel’s warmth is not what you’re seeking.
I signed up but cannot participate. Can I get a refund/recover for the following year?
In case of real participation issues, it is possible to request that the registration be transferred to the following year. Due to membership and insurance reasons, a fee of €15 will be required for the following year.
I have registered, but the event is canceled/ postponed. Can I get a refund or transfer my registration to the following year?
In the event that, due to force majeure circumstances beyond the organization’s control, such as environmental or health-related causes on a national or international level, the event cannot take place, the amount paid at the time of registration will not be refunded, but will be considered valid for the following edition.
The organization will still be entitled, for those who register free of charge for the next edition, to a contribution for administrative expenses and the renewal of the sports membership card.
Is there support for breakdowns and/or medical issues on the route?
Emilia Gravel is an unsupported event, so no support is provided for mechanical breakdowns or medical issues. However, participants will be monitored using the WHIP LIVE tracking app (which must be installed on their smartphones) so that the organization can track the participant’s location in case of serious issues and provide assistance. Additionally, the participant will be able to see the locations of the organizers throughout the route and contact them in case of a real emergency. For minor physical or mechanical issues, the participant is required to carry all necessary first aid kits for both themselves and their bike.
